What do you guys do when dealing with a really vague seller? Here is my story.
Craigslist, every auto enthusiasts best friend and worst nightmare. We all have stories from trying to buy and sell on CL, scammers, low-ballers, high-ballers, complete idiots. But an email I received today from someone who's motorcycle I am interested in annoys me more than anything, the vague replier.
The guy/gal had a decent ad posted, it had the bikes year, milage, "Probably the cleanest well maintained Buell you will find. Bike has never been down, runs perfect!", and a list of modifications.
So I decided to email them 4 basic CL questions
" I was wondering if you could tell me any more about it [the bike]? Have you done the maintenance yourself or have you had a shop do it? Do you have any of the other stock parts besides the ECM (After market ECM installed, ad said he still had the OEM) ? Do you have any more pictures? "
Simply enough right? Wrong, I guess, this is the reply I got.
" Bike is still for sale, " I know this is the first question people always ask but I didn't
" still have the stock ECM, little to no wear. " Thanks, I didn't know road wear on the ECM was a common concern and I saw in the ad that you still had it, what about other stock parts?
" Clean as your gonna find for an '08 " Yeah I have never heard that one before.
I really am interested in the bike but I don't know if I want to drive an hour and a half up the dreaded I-95 to look at a bike someone doesn't want to divulge too much information on. The bike has also been on sale for a couple weeks which is not common for model considering they are rare/hard to find.
What do you do when faced with such poor/shady sellers?
Here is a Merc for your time

It could be few things. He could be hiding something. He could be burned out. He may not be disclosing a fall on it. He may be selling it for a relative and may not know much about the item directly.

Call and talk in person. The people seriously interested in buying tend to call, text, and e-mail just in case you prefer one medium over another. Nothing wrong with that unless they call 20 times a day! :O
